# Fees

> Charge a fee on the payment of a receivable and keep the margin above your Trio cost.

A fee is an extra amount charged on the payment of a receivable. It is added on top of the receivable amount, so the payer settles both when paying the dynamic QR code, static QR code or boleto. All examples use fictitious data.

## Where it applies

The fee works the same way on the three receivables:

| Receivable | Create endpoint |
| - | - |
| Dynamic QR code | [`POST /v2/in/pix/qrcodes`](https://docs.trio.com.br/v2/api-reference/banking-api/receivables/pix/qrcode-dynamic/post) |
| Static QR code | [`POST /v2/in/pix/qrcodes/static`](https://docs.trio.com.br/v2/api-reference/banking-api/receivables/pix/qrcode-static/post) |
| Boleto | [`POST /v2/in/boletos`](https://docs.trio.com.br/v2/api-reference/banking-api/receivables/boletos/post) |

## Set the fee

Send `fee` inside the `options` object of the create request, as an integer in cents (BRL 100.00 = `10000`):

```json theme={null}
"options": {
  "fee": 150
}
```

```text theme={null}
0    → no fee
150  → BRL 1.50
1000 → BRL 10.00
```

The three responses return the configured fee as a money object:

```json theme={null}
"fee": {
  "amount": 150,
  "currency": "BRL"
}
```

On a dynamic QR code you can change the fee after creation with [`PUT /v2/in/pix/qrcodes/{id}`](https://docs.trio.com.br/v2/api-reference/banking-api/receivables/pix/qrcode-dynamic/update), which takes `fee` in cents at the top level of the body.

## How the fee is settled

Every receivable settled through Trio has a processing cost: the price you pay Trio for that receivable. When the payer pays, Trio keeps its processing cost out of the fee and passes the remaining difference on to you.

```text theme={null}
Payer pays the receivable
        │
        ├── Receivable amount ───────────────────► you
        │
        └── Fee
             │
             ├── Trio processing cost ───────────► Trio
             │
             └── Difference (fee − Trio cost) ───► you
```

The fee lets you pass the cost of collecting the receivable on to the payer: they cover your Trio cost plus a margin, and that margin is credited to you.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The fee must be greater than the Trio processing cost for that receivable. If it is not, there is no difference left to pass on to you.

## Request example

A dynamic QR code of BRL 100.00 with a BRL 2.00 fee:

```json theme={null}
{
  "amount": 10000,
  "external_id": "qr-demo-2026-001",
  "bank_account_id": "019f0000-1234-5678-9abc-000000000001",
  "counterparty": {
    "name": "Payer Name",
    "tax_number": "12345678901"
  },
  "description": "Pedido 12345",
  "options": {
    "allow_change_the_amount_on_payment": false,
    "show_qrcode_image": true,
    "fee": 200
  }
}
```

The fee is independent from [split payments](https://docs.trio.com.br/v2/guides/receivables/split-payments.md): use either on its own or both together.
